About Us

The Missourians Promoting Safe and Sober Driving Foundation is a statewide, not for profit 501(c)(3) organization that was formed in the late 1990's. It was formed in response to the unacceptable number of injuries and deaths to Missouri citizens involving alcohol and drug impaired drivers.

The Foundation, in partnership with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Missouri Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Division, have dedicated their efforts to finding a way to reduce deaths and injuries caused by alcohol/drug impaired drivers in the State of Missouri. Their Mission is "To educate citizens on the consequences of impaired driving" and "Promote Safe and Sober Driving". Their goal is: "To reduce alcohol/drug related deaths and injuries on Missouri roadways."

The initial phase of the Foundation's work was to construct the "Instant of Choice" Memorial as a tribute to those injured and killed by alcohol/drug impaired drivers in Missouri. Simon Oswald Architecture of Columbia, Missouri conducted a contest among university students to come up with the design for the memorial. The "Instant of Choice" design was submitted by Barry Boneau, a University of Missouri student.

While some organizations and individuals have donated generously, the Foundation has experienced many challenges in raising funds necessary for the development of a fixed memorial. Therefore a virtual "Instant of Choice" memorial has been developed on this website. This provides a tremendous opportunity to reach out electronically to more individuals and families across the state than would have been possible with the original memorial.

Current and future contributions will enable the Foundation's continued dedication to educating citizens on the consequences of impaired driving to reduce deaths and injuries due to these tragic crashes.

The Foundation's Board members include a broad range of representatives from Missouri law enforcement agencies, state agencies, safety organizations, and businesses including Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Department of Transportation, Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Simon Oswald Architecture, Missouri Safety Council, State Farm, Think First Missouri, and Who's Next? Think About It!
